St. Tammany Parish Communications District Announces 911 Software Updates
The St. Tammany Parish Communications District recently completed a major software and hardware upgrade to the 911 system. This upgrade brings the 911 system up to date with the latest versions of emergency response systems. This update positions the equipment to better accept future communications technology as it is developed. The Communications District also worked with other government agencies in the parish to purchase high resolution aerial photos from Pictometry and install it at each 911 console. Pictometry allows the 911 call-takers to view recently acquired aerial photography of St. Tammany Parish, allowing a site to be viewed from oblique angles. This will allow a call-taker to actually see the location where units are responding and give more accurate directions and possible hazards that are not seen from the ground level.
In 2007, St. Tammany Parish spent nearly $1.5 million to purchase and install a state-of-the-art 911 system. The District contracted with AT&T for periodic updates and upgrades to assure that St. Tammany Parish remains in the forefront of developing technology for communications centers.

The District provides initial and ongoing training to assure the emergency agencies have top quality staffing.
St. Tammany Parish Communications District supports (8) Public Safety Answering Points. These include: St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, Mandeville Police Department, Covington Police Department, Covington Fire Department, Slidell Police Department, Fire Protection District #1, Pearl River Police Department, and Unifire Dispatch.
