St. Tammany Parish is fortunate to have a “9-1-1 Board” comprised of members selected for their expertise in public safety. Their willingness to volunteer their time and experience requires the commissioners to attend meetings and participate in district responsibilities which often takes them away from their professional careers.
The Board of Commissioners is comprised of seven members. Six members are nominated and appointed by the Parish Council. One member is nominated and appointed by the Parish President. Appointments are:
– One member representing the Parish Governing Authority
– One member representing the Parish Sheriff’s Office
– One member representing the Parish Hospitals
– Two members representing Law Enforcement Agencies
– Two member representing Fire Protection Districts
The purpose of the District is to shorten the time required for a citizen to request and receive emergency aid. The District is to establish the number 911 as the primary emergency telephone number for use by the District.
